In Math, the students are learning that there are many ways to represent the same number using base ten blocks. Example: 236 can be built using 2 hundreds, 3 tens, 6 ones OR 1 hundred, 13 tens, 6 ones.
The students had their first 'choice' day for Daily 5. They chose to go to either Read to Self, Work on Writing, or Read to Someone for 25 minutes today.
We read the story "Country Frog, City Dog" and made connections from our 3 brain pockets (fact, memory, imagination). The connections were related to a feeling from the book, the story itself, a character from the story or from a picture in the book. This led to some great discussions as a class.
We had SO much fun in Science today! Our question was: Why do some volcanoes explode? We investigated how differences in lava types explain differences in the shape and eruption patterns among volcanoes. We experimented with “lava” of different thicknesses to solve the mystery.
