This week we've finished our lessons from our patterns unit in math. We've begun reviewing what they've been taught about increasing and decreasing patterns. During Daily 5, the students have continued working on their independent stamina with reading to self and while working on writing. They will be introduced to read to someone tomorrow! We've been discussing and learning about the 3 types of rocks: igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary. Next week we'll begin looking at the properties of minerals. Today was the Terry Fox Run! We learned how inspiring Terry Fox was and how much of a Canadian hero he is considered to be. Our school has raised almost $3,000 this year toward the Terry Fox Foundation and furthering cancer research and ultimately a cure. Incredible job!

Did You Know….that the CBE has chosen to Acknowledge the Land and the Why?
The CBE has chosen to have all schools commence school-wide assemblies or celebrations with an acknowledgement of the land and its’ first peoples, as our Elders have taught us it’s important to acknowledge the land where we gather and the first peoples who traditionally lived here. It shows respect for people, their contributions and their ways of knowing, which are reflected through the stories and songs that have lived on this land for thousands of years.
The exact statement that will be read across the assemblies is as follows: “We would like to acknowledge the traditional territories and oral practices of the Blackfoot Nations, which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai. We also acknowledge the Tsuut’ina and Stoney Nakoda First Nations, the Metis Nation (Region 3), and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.”

~ Today we played a game with a dice in Math that can easily be played at home! Write a number between 5 and 10. This is the start of an increasing pattern. Roll a dice and use the number to add each time. Write the next 5 numbers in your pattern. Discuss the pattern rule. Create a decreasing pattern. Choose a starting number between 31 and 40. Count back by the number rolled.
