Monday April 30th 2018

Highlights:
We started our morning with a 'brain dump.' The student's were able to share their weekend adventures. We had math and our lesson today focused on division. This was an introductory lesson on division. They will continue this lesson tomorrow. We had music and gym. After gym, we had spelling and writing. Today for writing, the student's had a 'free write.' They were able to write about whatever they wanted. Most student's wrote about their weekend or finished stories they started earlier. 
After lunch, we continued to work on our Peru cube. The student's did learn about some of the celebrations and festivals Peru has. This will be included in their cube project. At the end of the day, we had weaving. Many student's forgot their weaving at home. Please remind them to bring it tomorrow. 

Laser City draw was today. I'm so proud of how much reading the student's have done! We will be doing this challenge again in May. April's winner was  - Keldon (Free game) and Priya (2 for 1 game). 

Important Information:

May 4th - May The Fourth be With You Day – wear StarWars themed t-shirts or hoodies or shoes etc.  Dress in white and black – Storm Trooper or yellow and black – like opening credits.  If you have something – wear it.  If not – no worries!!!! 

Yearbook Order Forms - Due May 15th. They are $25 each. 

PHS CELEBRATION OF LEARNING - May 24th - 6:00pm-7:30pm (see purple save the date card in their green folders) 

Twin and Triplet Day – June 1st - Dress up like one another.  This is optional.  You can also wear your Panorama Hills Wear or our school colours.

Highlights:
Today the students worked though multiplication arrays in math. There was a homework page sent home. Please review this work with your child and return the homework to school. 

The students have chosen their 'rainforest' animal to research for our science unit: Animal Life Cycles. They will be researching and writing about their animal and building a presentation for the upcoming Celebration of Learning night in May. 

We continue to work on their weaving projects. These will be finished in 1 week.

Monday April 23rd 201



Highlights:

We started our morning with silent reading and math. Today's lesson focused on multiplication. The student's had music and gym. After gym, they had spelling and computers. They have been adding their poetry to their google docs account. 
After lunch, the student's continued to work on their social studies cube project. We also worked on our weaving. 

Tomorrow afternoon there will be a presentation from Quest Theatre. The student's will be seeing a performance called 'As Long as the Sun Shines.'

Thursday, April 19th, 2018

Highlights:
The math test is complete and will be marked over the weekend and returned next week. We started our next unit: Multiplication and Division! The students are very excited for this new learning. Beginning next week, we will be requesting all math homework pages from this unit to be returned to school for the teachers to review. More information will follow. 

We watched an assembly this morning and learned about taking care of the Earth and treating people respectfully. 

Spelling quizzes will also be returned next week. 

This afternoon we worked in groups with our homemade musical instruments and created 30 second songs. The students will post their videos on their IRIS accounts next week.

Monday April 16th 2019

Highlights:

We started our morning with silent reading and math. We started lesson 12 of this unit. Today's lesson focused on exploring mass in grams. We will finish this lesson tomorrow. There will be a test on the measurement unit on Wednesday. The student's had music and gym. The classes are learning about volleyball in gym. They've been practicing how to properly hit and pass a volleyball. After gym, we had spelling and writing. In writing, we're continuing our unit on poetry. Today's focus was on writing pyramid poems. 

After lunch, we started a special project that all the grade 3 classes will be working on. Mr. Dalderies class came to our classroom and taught us how to weave. Weaving is an essential part of the Peruvian and Indian culture and we will be turning our weaving into pillows. More information to come on this project, stay tuned! 

At the end of the day, we had Social Studies. We spent a lot of time last week learning about the different regions of Peru. Today we recorded the information about the dessert, the mountains and the amazon. We will be using this information for an upcoming project on Peru.

Bow Habitat

Just a friendly reminder - Tomorrow is our class field trip. Please dress for the weather as the students will be going on an outside walk at Bow Habitat. Most of the class activities will be inside but they will spend a small amount of time outside. Pack a good lunch with some extra snacks and a water bottle.

We've also been discussing the recent tragedy in Humboldt, Saskatchewan and students are encouraged to wear a jersey or green to school tomorrow to show their support for all the people affected by this terrible event.

Musical Instruments due tomorrow

Don't forget: All musical instruments are due tomorrow (Tuesday April 10th). The student's will be presenting them.

Monday April 9th 2018

Highlights:
I'm posting this Monday morning because all of the computers in the school are being re-imaged today and tomorrow. If you need to get a hold of us, please call us at school or email us and we'll email you back from our home computers. 

This morning we will complete lesson 8 for math. This lessons focus in on measuring perimeter in centimeters. Homework will be sent home today. The students have music and gym. After gym, we have spelling and writing. Today's writing will focus on poetry and writing cinquain (sin-kain) poem. A cinquain poem is a verse of 5 lines one one topic and does not rhyme. Each line has a specific number of words or syllables. 

We continued poetry after lunch. We also had 20 minutes of quite reading time. Our class loves to read and its wonderful to see them enjoy reading. 

We have social studies at the end of the day. We're continuing to learn about Peru. We have been learning about Peru's national symbols, it's flag and the countries that surround it. Today, we will be learning about its geographical regions (dessert, mountains and the rainforest).

  • Our class Field Trip to the Bow Habitat is on Thursday, April 12th. Thank you to all the parents who offered to volunteer. We are missing a few student's permission forms. Please send them back asap. 
  • Book Orders due - April 25th 

Important Information:

Please dress your children accordingly for the weather this week.  The temperature is forecasted to rise significantly and we are expecting our school grounds to be wet and slushy.  Rubber boots, splash pants and a change of clothing in the backpacks would be greatly appreciated. 


Laser City Read to win contest – Each month student’s will be given a reading log sheet to fill in. Student’s can either read a story book, 4 chapters of a novel or 12 pages in a novel per signature. Here is an example:

 Orders must be placed by Friday, April 13thNote that tickets will be sent home with your child upon purchase, so please don’t misplace them!
 No tickets for admission will be sold at the door.
 No outside food or drink permitted, due to food allergies.
 Leave boots at the door and take your coats into gym with you.
 You must stay with your child for the dance. It is NOT a drop-off event.
 As loud music will be played, we ask that all toddlers and infants stay at home for this event.
 Please throw your recycling/garbage in the bins provided on your way out of the gym and help clean up messes.
