Highlights:
We started our morning discussing our learning targets (outcomes) for our measurement unit. Student's are aiming to be at the centre of the target or at a 4. See the picture below. They will explain this to you during student led conferences. We also started lesson 4 of this unit. Today's lesson focused on using a ruler to measure. Student's made a tagboard and glues yellow and green stripes of paper on it. They used this to measure objects around the classroom. They had music and gym. In gym, student's practiced skipping. Today was special because we skipped in the dark with glow sticks attached to our ropes. After gym, we continued typing our Winter Stories into google drive. The student's are excited to share them with you during student led conferences. After lunch, we had spelling and social studies. Today, the student's were introduced to Peru. This is the next country we're studying. The student's have many 'wonders' about Peru and are excited to find the answers to their questions about Peru.

We had another busy day in grade 3. We started our morning with math. We're reviewing the addition and subtraction unit because there is a test on Thursday. Today, we completed an activity called, 'show what you know.' After math, we had music and gym. In gym, the student's have been learning a hip hop dance and they'll be performing it at Friday's assembly. Parents are welcome to attend: Friday March 9th at 9:45am. We had spelling and cursive writing. The student's were taught the last two lower case swing letters today (r and w). We will be learning curved lower case letters on Tuesday and Wednesday (a, d, g and qu).
We have been working extremely hard on our class book. The student's decided they wanted to change the topic of our book. The student's wanted to write a book using their Olympic research. We discovered our school library has no books about the winter Olympics and they wanted to make sure future student's would have a chance to learn about the winter Olympics. Today, we planned out the cover page, title page, table of content page as well as a few pages we like to leave as a surprise. The student's drew the good copy of their pictures and we will do the good copies of their writing this week. If you would like to order a copy of the class book please read below.

Highlights:
We are continuing to work through 3-digit addition and subtraction problems and word problems. This unit is wrapping up and we will be having a test next Thursday. We will send home test review sheets tomorrow. Please work through them over the next week. They do not need to be returned.
Spelling quizzes were marked and sent home today.
We are also wrapping up our Hearing and Sound unit in science. There are a few more inquiry-based activities with Mystery Science that we will do over the next week and a science test will be given the week of March 12th. A study guide will be sent home next week.
We have been working on writing an entertaining beginning for our winter adventure stories. Today we learned that a good beginning will include one of the following: an action - What would you do?, dialogue or exclamation - What would you say?, a thought/question - What are you wondering about?, or a sound - What would you hear?
Here is an example of a boring beginning related to a haunted house: Hi, my name is Kate. I will tell you about my adventure exploring a haunted house! Here is an example of revising the boring sentence for something that will grab the readers attention using an action: My hands trembled as I opened the creaky old door of the deserted house.
Pink Shirt Day was a success at PHS yesterday! The students were able to fill the board with awesome messages of kindness!
