Monday February 26th 2018

Highlights:
We had another busy day in grade 3. We started our morning with a class discussion about the Olympics. The students are very interested in this subject. We finished our medal count bulletin board. We had a lot of fun tracking the medals. The students also solved this math question today. How many medals did the top 5 countries earn? Norway - 39, Germany - 31, Canada - 29, USA - 23 and Netherlands - 20. The students tried many different strategies and most were able to come up with the right answer.
We had music and gym today. For the next two weeks of gym, the students will be learning a hip-hop dance and they'll be preforming it in front of the school on March 9th. After gym we had spelling. Today the students were also introduced to cursive writing. This week they will learn 2 letters per day. The letters we're focusing on this week are swing letters (i, t, u, s, j, p, r, w). Today's letters were i and t.
We started planning our 'freezing' stories. They will continue this tomorrow. We also started our good copies of our Olympic writing. We contributed to #pinkitforward. The students wrote messages of kindness and encouragement on a pink sticky and we attached it to a large banner that the whole school is contributing too. We read chapter 18 in our novel study.

Reminders:

Pink Shirt Day
On February 28th PHS will be participating in Pink Shirt day to help raise awareness about bullying and to raise funds for anti-bullying programs. This year our Grade 4 students have been hard at work organizing this event! Students will be selling handmade friendship bracelets to help support the cause #PinkItForward. Bracelets will be on sale for all students and staff members to purchase beginning Monday February 26th – 28th. Bracelets will cost $2.00 and all the money raised will be donated to Kids Help Phone. We encourage everyone to practice kindness and wear pink on February 28th to symbolize that you do not tolerate bullying.
